Pipeline Transport

The survey on transport in pipelines covers inland transport, international receipt and dispatch as well as transit. It is conducted using voluntary reports by the pipeline operating companies. The rate of return constitutes permanent 100% and the results are published annually.

Results

The transport volume of 64.6 million tons in the reporting year 2011 was 3.8 million tons respectively 6.2% over the reference value of the preceding year which is due both to an increase of 1.5% (2010: -2.3%) to 32.9 million tons in transports of petroleum and 11.6% more (2010: -1.0%) to 31.7 million tons in transports of natural gas.

Transport performance (i.e. the product of transport volume and distance) showed a similar development with a total increase of 1 329 million tonne kilometres (tkm) to 15 871 million tkm, a rise of 9.1% compared to the year before (2010: -3.4%). The transport performance of petroleum enhanced by 3.3% to 7 228 million tkm (2010: -4.2%) and such of natural gas by 14.6% to 8 644 million tkm (2010: -2.6%).
