Crimes recorded by the police

A total of 535 745 criminal offences were recorded by the police in Austria in 2010, 9.4% less on the previous year’s figure of 591 597. At -6.0%, the number of solved cases also decreased in a year-on-year comparison (from 235 760 to 221 627). The clear-up rate (number of solved cases as a percentage of the total number of cases recorded) thus raised by 1.5 percentage points from 39.9% (2009) to 41.4% (2010).

In parallel to the total number of criminal offences recorded by the police, the number of suspects identified also decreased throughout Austria. Between 2009 and 2010 the number dropped by 2.6% from 246 378 to 239 954. The number of juvenile suspects aged from 14 to less than 18 decreased by 11.4%, the number of foreign suspects declined by 0.9%.
