Long-term trend and current final annual results

In the 1980s and 1990s, there were 85 000 deaths a year on average. The lowest number of deaths in Austria was recorded in 2004, at 74 292, rising by 897 in 2005 to 75 189. 2006 once again brought a decline in the number of deaths, to 74 295. From 2007 to 2010 Austria saw an increase in the annual total of deaths to 77 199. In 2011, the annual total of deaths accounted for 76 479, a decrease of 0.9% compared with the 2010 figures.

Life expectancy at birth increased in 2011 to 78.1 years for men and 83.4 years for women. The infant mortality rate was 3.6 per thousand live births.
