Response Burden - Results
Current Development
In 2010, a total of 47 719 enterprises had to report data for one or more compulsory
surveys conducted by STATISTICS AUSTRIA. In comparison to 2009, the
number of enterprises with reporting obligations decreased by 2 424 despite the fact, that in 2010 four smaller surveys were
included in the calculations for the first time.
57.6% of the enterprises with reporting obligations
had reporting obligations for one survey only, 27.9% for two and 14.5% for three or more. The maximum number of reporting obligations
was nine, affecting only 5 enterprises. The total number of enterprises
with reporting obligations was 12.1% of all active enterprises.
The total response burden for all compulsory surveys
conducted by STATISTICS AUSTRIA on a regular basis was reduced by 18.1% between
2001 and 2010. This reduction was mainly achieved by reductions in sample
frames, rise in thresholds and the increasing use of administrative
data and electronic reporting devices. However, the calculations for
2010 had to take into account the survey on research and development,
the survey on producer prices for manufacturing products which started
in 2006 and additional variables within the structural business statistics
in trade and services. In 2010 four surveys were included into the calculations
for the first time: the survey on producer prices for selected services,
the survey on import-prices, surveys for transportation on rail, aviation
and inland water ways as well as the survey on foreign affiliates statistics
(FATS). Including the reporting burden of all irregular surveys, the
total decrease between 2001 and 2010 still amounted to 14.9%.
