Housing costs

In 2011, average monthly costs for a dwelling (rent or repayment/annuity for owner used freehold dwellings and running costs, optionally costs for heating, garaged/reserved car parking place) were €410 per dwelling, which was 2.8% higher than the average for 2010 (€399); the figure of €5.69 per square metre as against €5.53 also equated to an increase of 2.9%. Costs for garaged/reserved car parking places are not directly related to supply the need of habitation, thus the displayed housing costs will be shown henceforth in a variant without costs for garaged/reserved car parking places. Because of the detailed questionnaire (“Are the stated costs for garaged/reserved car parking places included in housing costs? Yes/no”) it is possible to deduct “included”  costs for garaged/reserved car parking places from the total amount of housing costs. To demonstrate the effect also the detailed tables (available in German only) for the average 2011 are added currently in the variant “housing costs excluding costs for garaged/reserved car parking places”, distinguishable on the so called titles. The rates of change mentioned in the first paragraph did not change by these measures. For further results look at dwellings (main residences) occupied against payment.

Notes: Tables where the source is specified as “Microcensus” generally have a very detailed structure; for all dwelling frequencies projected nationwide that are less than 16 000 dwellings and for values derived from these frequencies, the relative sampling error – which is calculated approximately – is at least +/-20% with 95% statistical certainty. For Länder (federal province) results, the relative sampling error exceeds the 20% mark for a projected number of dwellings that is less than … (Burgenland 4 000, Carinthia 6 000, Lower Austria 19 000, Upper Austria 20 000, Salzburg 7 000, Styria 14 000, Tyrol 8 000, Vorarlberg 4 000, Vienna 24 000). - Changes in percent are calculated from unrounded data of the Excel-tables.
