Authorisations

In the year 2011 about 43 150 dwellings were authorised in new residential buildings. The amount of dwellings being permitted to construct in 2010 was about 39 450. In the years 2009 and 2008 it were approximately 38 000 at a time, in 2007 and 2006 about 37 600 at a time, in the year 2005 less than 36 100 dwellings were authorised.

The gross floor areas of authorised new buildings amount about 12,8 mio. sqm. in 2011. Relating to the whole year 2010 this was almost than 11.4 mio. sqm.. In 2009 it was more than 10.5 mio. sqm., in the reporting year 2008 it was near to 10.8, 2007 less than 10.2 and the year before around 10.3 mio. sqm. as well as approximately 9 mio. sqm. within the year 2005.

The figures are mostly preliminary and estimated. They present the topics of an EU-obligation (Council Regulation (EC) No 1165/98 in its current version concerning short-term statistics) for quarterly reports about building activities in Austria. The data generally does not include rebuilding, extension or reconstruction. Concerning the matter of the number of dwellings, those in new non-residential buildings are excluded too.
