2011: Chicken production rose slightly

In 2011 hatcheries subject to reporting requirements reported a total number of 109.4 million chicken-eggs for hatching. This represents a growth of 0.3% in comparison to the previous year. The number of heatched chicks for laying purposes rose to 17.9 million head (+20.5%), that one for fattening purposes to 67.5 million head (+0.3%). Numbers on turkeys, geese, ducks and guinea fowls will not be published for data protection reasons.

Methodological notes

In accordance with Regulation No. 356/2003 (as amended; available in German only) of the Federal Law Gazette II all hatcheries with a laying capacity of at least 1 000 hatching eggs are subject to this survey.
